What We Treat
Eight jobs make up most domestic work. Each one links to the detail, and every one is handled by the same qualified technicians who service commercial contracts.
Same-day treatment for nests in roof voids, soffits, sheds and gardens. The most common domestic call we get.
Rodents in lofts, kitchens, drains and garages. Survey first, then proofing and removal, so the problem ends.
Grey squirrels in roof spaces, trapped and then proofed out. Gnawed cables are a fire risk, making this one urgent.
Heat and insecticide treatment with follow-ups. No need to throw the mattress out or sleep in another room.
Bait that reaches the colony rather than sprays that scatter the trail. The nest is usually outside, under paving.
Traps set in the active runs, not the molehills, then checked until the lawn is clear. No gas, no guesswork.
Netting, spikes and wire fitted to roofs, solar panels and gutters, with the fouling cleared and sanitised first.
Loft cluster flies, fleas after a pet, carpet moths and silverfish. Treated at the source rather than the sighting.
How It Works
A short call tells us what you have, how long it has been there and how urgent it is. We do not need photographs to book you in.
A qualified technician attends, identifies the species and finds where it is getting in, not just where you have seen it.
Treatment is chosen for your home, your pets and your children. You are told what has been used and what to expect over the next few days.
The gap, the airbrick, the roof edge. Proofing is what stops the same pest returning next season, and we carry out that work ourselves.
Why Shield
Most of our work is contract pest control for food manufacturers, warehouses and hospitality, where an audit failure closes a site. The standard does not drop when the address is a semi on a quiet street. You get the same qualified technician, the same record of what was used and the same insistence on finding the entry point.
Urgent Call Outs
Some pests can wait a week. A wasp nest above a child’s bedroom window, a rat heard in the kitchen ceiling, or bed bugs found the day before family arrive cannot.
Tell us it is urgent when you call and we will tell you honestly when we can get to you rather than booking you in and hoping. Our technicians work from bases across the region, so the van is rarely far away.
Before We Arrive
Leave the shop bought spray alone. Amateur products scatter ants, drive bed bugs into neighbouring rooms and make a wasp nest defensive. They also make our job longer.
Do not block the hole yet. If something is getting in, sealing it before treatment can trap an animal inside a wall or a roof.
Keep sleeping in the same bed. For bed bugs, moving to the sofa spreads them through the house. It is the single most common mistake we see.
Note when and where you see them. Time of day and the exact spot tells a technician more than a photograph does.
Landlords and Letting Agents
If you let property, a pest report is not just about clearing the problem. You need a dated record of what was found, what was treated and whether the cause was the building or the way it was being used.
We attend tenanted properties across the region, liaise with the tenant directly to arrange access, and send the written report to you. Where the cause is a structural defect we will say so plainly, which is usually what settles the argument.
What It Costs
Most household jobs are a fixed price for the treatment and any return visits it needs, quoted before we set off. Wasp nests are usually a single visit. Rodents and bed bugs are a course of visits, priced as one job rather than per call. If a technician arrives and the problem turns out to be something different from what you described, you are told the revised price before any work starts.
Areas We Cover
Based in Selby, Shield attends homes, flats and tenanted property across the region. Most towns are within an hour of a technician, and urgent household jobs are prioritised over routine contract visits.
A: Yes. Shield is best known for contract pest control in food manufacturing and hospitality, but the same qualified technicians attend houses, flats and tenanted property every day. Domestic work is booked as a single job rather than a contract.
A: Most household treatments are quoted as a fixed price on the phone, covering the treatment and any return visits it needs. A wasp nest is usually one visit. Rodents and bed bugs are a course of visits priced as a single job. There is no separate call out fee.
A: Products are chosen for the household they are going into. Baits are placed in locked stations or in voids a child or a dog cannot reach, and the technician will tell you which rooms to stay out of and for how long. If you have fish, birds or a reptile, say so when you book.
A: Urgent household jobs such as a wasp nest by a doorway, rats heard indoors or bed bugs are prioritised and are usually same day or next day. Tell the office it is urgent when you call and you will be given an honest appointment rather than a hopeful one.
A: You need to let the technician in and be there while the property is inspected, so you can say where you have seen the pest. Most household treatments take under an hour. If a return visit is needed, it can often be arranged around work, and for tenanted property we can liaise with the tenant directly.
