Pest Control Services
Shield has treated the same pests across Yorkshire since 2002, on food factories, warehouses, schools, restaurants, farms and houses. Every service below is delivered under the same standards, with the same reporting, whether it is a one-off wasp nest or a contracted programme.
Our Services
Eight services cover the overwhelming majority of what Shield is asked to do on commercial property. Each is available as a one-off treatment or inside a contracted programme.
Rats and mice in buildings, drainage and external areas. Proofing and exclusion first, CRRU-compliant toxic control only where the assessment justifies it.
Netting, spiking, wire and fouling removal for roofs, canopies, plant and public frontages, with all the access and welfare considerations that come with it.
Same-day safe nest removal for commercial and domestic property, including roof voids, sheds, garages, grounds and awkward access.
Integrated fly management for kitchens, waste areas and production: source control, proofing and correctly sited units rather than units alone.
Supply, siting, servicing, replacement parts and catch analysis, including LED conversions that cut running cost and lamp waste.
Commercial kitchen and warm plant specialists. Identification, targeted treatment and the follow-up that actually clears an established population.
Detection, pheromone monitoring, treatment and prevention strategies and plans across grain, feed, dry goods and long-term storage.
The work that reduces the need for everything else: entry points, drainage, door seals, mesh, bird proofing and housekeeping in a wide range of environments.
Also Covered
Less frequent, no less thoroughly handled. Several of these sit under rodent control or proofing on a contracted site, but each has its own answer.
Norway rats in drainage, yards, stores and building fabric, and the proofing work that stops them coming back.
House mice in cavity walls, service ducts and older fabric, where exclusion matters far more than bait.
Heat and chemical treatments for hotels, student accommodation, residential lets and domestic property.
Floor joints, kitchens, access areas and welfare areas, plus the seasonal flying ant pressure that follows.
Grassland, paddocks, grounds and sports surfaces, worked to the season rather than the call-out.
Grey squirrels in lofts, roof spaces and outbuildings, with the proofing to stop reinfestation.
At a Glance
Every Shield service is available both ways. A one-off treatment is a survey, a treatment and a written report, with a follow-up where the pest biology needs one. A contracted programme adds a documented risk assessment, numbered and mapped monitoring, scheduled visits at a frequency set by risk, trend analysis and a full evidence trail in the Insectram portal. Commercial sites under audit almost always need the programme. A single wasp nest does not. What does not change is who turns up: the same BPCA-qualified, RSPH-trained technicians, working to the CRRU Code and the BPCA Codes of Best Practice.
How We Work
The wrong identification wastes a treatment and, with stored product insects and cockroaches in particular, loses weeks. Where it matters, samples go to a field biologist rather than a best guess.
Spillage, entry points, drainage, vegetation and waste handling. Treatment without proofing is a recurring invoice, which suits nobody worth working with.
Non-toxic monitoring, trapping and exclusion carry most of the work. Rodenticide is used to the CRRU Code, in and around buildings, with the bait removed and recorded at the end of the treatment.
Every visit produces a report, whether it is a single treatment or visit forty of a contract. On contracted sites it lands in the portal before the technician leaves.
AI Pest Management
On a contracted site, the service and the evidence are the same thing. Insectram holds the site plan, the numbered monitoring points, every inspection, every recommendation with an owner and a date, safety data sheets for every product applied, and the trend analysis across the year. Site managers, QA leads and auditors log in to see it rather than asking us for it. AI analytics surface recurring risks and seasonal patterns, while every technical decision stays with your BPCA-qualified technician.
Emergency Response
Pest problems do not arrive on a service schedule. A rodent sighting in a production area, a wasp nest by a fire exit, a cockroach found in a kitchen before service, a bird in a warehouse: all of them stop something.
Shield runs 24-hour emergency call-out across Yorkshire and the North of England, attended by the same technicians who service the site, so nobody arrives without knowing the building. On contracted sites the response is logged against the site like any other visit, so an emergency does not leave a gap in the record an auditor will later ask about.
Areas We Cover
Based in Selby, Shield covers commercial and domestic property across Yorkshire, the Humber and the North of England. Independent since 2002, BPCA registered, CRRU compliant, £10m public liability, 24-hour emergency response.
Tell us what you have found and where, and a Shield technician or field biologist will look at it properly, identify it, and tell you what it actually takes to deal with it. No obligation.
A: Yes. Shield is a commercial pest control company by weight of work, but the same technicians handle domestic wasp nests, rodents, squirrels, bed bugs and ants across the same area. A domestic job gets the same identification, the same qualified technician and the same written report, without the documentation a contracted commercial site needs.
A: It depends on the pest and the property. A wasp nest is a one-off by nature. An established rodent or cockroach population needs a treatment and follow-ups, and if the building keeps offering food and entry it will come back regardless of how good the treatment was. Any site being audited needs a contracted programme, because the standard asks for the documentation as well as the control. We will tell you which you need rather than selling the larger one.
A: Shield runs 24-hour emergency call-out across Yorkshire and the North of England. Contracted sites take priority and are attended by the technicians who already know the building. For a non-urgent domestic or one-off commercial job, we will give you a realistic appointment rather than an optimistic one.
